Diamond Gents Earn Second-Consecutive Walk-Off With 3-2 Win Over LeTourneau

Shreveport – The Centenary baseball team earned its second-consecutive walk-off victory as the Diamond Gents edged the LeTourneau University YellowJackets 3-2 on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest at Shehee Stadium.

The Diamond Gents (12-6) have won three in a row and six of eight. Centenary, which swept the season series over LeTourneau (12-13) following a6-2 win in Longview on March 7, will be back in action on Wednesday evening at Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, La. at 5 p.m.

Centenary scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third on a two-out RBI single by junior 2B Jobee Boone (Opelousas, La.). Freshman 3B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.) singled up the middle with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior CF Gary Hewitt (Cedar Park, Texas) grounded out and Menard went to third. Senior SS Noah Koehmstedt (San Diego, Calif.) walked and Boone delivered the hit for a 1-0 lead.

LeTourneau scored a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. SS Lane Williams and 3B Devin Greaff had consecutive singles off of Centenary starting pitcher, freshman LHP Cody Myers (Friendswood, Texas). DH Cole Thompson then tied the game with an RBI double and the second run scored on an error. The Diamond Gents tied the game in the seventh as Boone again came though with another two-out hit as he singled to right to score Hewitt.

Freshman C Caleb Ickes (Prairieville, La.) doubled down the left-field line to start the ninth and Menard laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Hewitt then stepped to the plate and launched a deep ball to center for a game-winning, walk-off sacrifice fly. Senior RHP Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season as he pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs on one hit with no walks and five strikeouts. He faced seven batters and threw 31 pitches (23 strikes).

Myers pitched well in his six innings as he allowed two runs, one earned, and five hits with no walks and four K's. He faced 23 batters and threw 73 pitches (51 strikes). Freshman RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas) went an inning and did not allow a run on two hits with no walks and no K's. He faced four batters and threw 14 pitches (8 strikes).

Cruz Cox started for LeTourneau and went two innings. He did not allow a run on one hit with a walk and no K's. Four relievers followed with the final, Will Bond (2-2) taking the loss as he went 2.2 innings and allowed a run on two hits.

Centenary finished with six hits, drew five walks, only struck out three times, and left eight on base. LeTourneau had eight hits, no walks, struck out nine times, and left five on base. Each team stole one base and Centenary committed two errors while LeTourneau played error-free ball.

Boone finished 2-4 with two RBI, Hewitt went 1-2 with two walks and a run scored, Ickes was 1-3 with a double and run scored, and Menard went 1-2 with a run and a walk.

Centenary will be back in action on Wednesday evening at Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, La. at 5 p.m.
