Schornack adds to record as CC sweeps Ursuline

Senior Amy Schornack added to her record at Colorado College, Tuesday afternoon as she surpassed 4,000 career assists as the Tiger volleyball team swept Ursuline College, 3-0 in Reid Gymnasium.

Schornack is the only setter in program history to hit the 4,000 career assists mark. She currently holds the all-time career assists record with 4,003 career assists. This season, Schornack has 1,004 assists and needs 256 more to break the single season record of 1,259 assists that she currently holds.

Schornack hit the 4,000 assists mark on her 31st assist of the day. With the Tigers ahead 10-6 in the third set, Schornack dished out an assist to junior Laura Goldsmith, who hit for a kill to give Schornack her 4,000th career assist.

Schornack ran the offense for CC against Ursuline with a team-high 34 assists. Along with her 34 assists, she led the Tigers in the back row with a team-high 19 digs to earn her 11th double-double of the season.

Goldsmith led the attack for the Tigers with a team-high 12 kills and also dug up 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.

The Tigers won the first set against the Arrows, 25-15. CC held Ursuline to a game-low .067 hitting percentage while getting five blocks on defense.

In the second set, the Tigers hit a game-high .326 attack percentage to help CC earn the 25-18 decision over Ursuline. The Tigers strong hitting percentage was sparked with four straight kills to begin the second set with an early 4-0 lead.

CC began the third set down 3-0, but went on an 8-0 run with strong serving by freshman Kristen Liberty. The rally was ignited with two serving aces by Liberty to knot the score at 3-3. The Tigers continued their run with five more points, which included kills by Goldsmith and Kate Squires and another service ace by Liberty. CC carried that momentum the rest of the set to earn the sweep with a 25-17 win over Ursuline.

Liberty combined for 10 digs, four kills and a team-high three service aces for the Tigers. Freshman Logan Savidge and senior Hannah Varnell added nine digs in the back row for CC.

Senior Meredith Ballard added eight kills for the Tiger offense, while senior Haley Hamilton and Schornack each contributed to six kills to aid the offense.

Freshman Gabriela Rodriguez made her collegiate debut against the Arrows as she compiled a dig and an ace for her first time playing as a Tiger.

CC is now 25-5 on the season and has extended its winning streak to 11 games. Ursuline fell to 7-12 on the season.

The Tigers will travel to Conway, Ark. for the SCAC Central Intra-Pod tournament on Oct. 22-23 to wrap up the regular season of conference action.
