'Roos Split on Day One of SCAC Cross-Divisional

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team split its first two matches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Divisional on Saturday, falling 3-0 to Southwestern before rebounding with a 3-0 victory over Schreiner in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 14-17 overall and 8-7 in SCAC play.

Against the Pirates, the 'Roos fell by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 while hitting just .066 as a team in the match compared to a .227 team hitting percentage for Southwestern. Karson Dykes led Austin College with six kills, while Shelbi Cook had five and Caitlin Mahoney added four in the loss. Brooklyn Talley had 11 assists for the 'Roos, and Mari Prazak led Austin College defensively with 14 digs. Hannah Arbaugh added 13 digs and three kills in the match.

The 'Roos capped off day one of the Cross-Divisional with a three-set sweep of Schreiner, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-22. The Mountaineers led 18-12 in the third set, but Austin College stormed back to tie things up at 19 and then overtook Schreiner to clinch the victory. Dykes led Austin College with 13 kills, while Arbaugh and Kynleigh Browne each had eight. Talley again led the way with 21 assists and Prazak had a match-high 17 digs.

Austin College wraps up the weekend tomorrow as they take on Colorado College at 2:00 p.m. and Centenary at 6:00 p.m.
