Celts Sweep Schreiner In Saturday Doubleheader

Celts Sweep Schreiner In Saturday Doubleheader

Baseball concluded their SCAC opening series against Schreiner this Saturday afternoon. The Celts' day was highlighted by career milestones and a gem from Landon Murray

Game 2: UST 16 SCH 2 (7 Innings)

Schreiner got on the scoreboard first in the first inning. However, in the second, the Celts scored as Jason Brown singled to bring home Leo Galvan. The inning was not over yet, as the Celts added six more runs powered by Leo Galvan's 100th career hit as the score read 7-0. From there, Schreiner added one run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the offensive explosion St. Thomas had. It was highlighted by a Jeffrey Williams two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to cap off a 16-run offensive output as the Celts secured their first SCAC victory.

Landon Murray notched his tenth career victory (most all-time) this game after going six innings and allowing just four hits. Murray also struck out four batters. Paul Baba came in relief and threw a shutout seventh inning to secure the win.

Game 3: UST 8 SCH 6

It seemed like UST would struggle as the score was 3-1 in the third inning, and then they added another one in the fourth to make the score 4-1. However, in the home half of the fifth inning, the Celts found themselves with the bases loaded with no one out, Erik Garza answered the call with a 2 RBI double to the gap in right-center. The Celts then added three more runs to make the score 6-4 heading into the sixth inning. From there, St. Thomas added two more runs powered by a Jeffrey Williams single to score two as the score read 8-4 at the end of the sixth. Schreiner tried to claw their way back into the game adding a run in the seventh, however, it wasn't enough to keep pace as the Celt's lead was too large to come back from. Then in the ninth, Kameron Craig came into the game and picked up another save as St. Thomas secured their second SCAC victory of the season.
