Dallas Drops Both Games of Doubleheader to Hendrix

After last night's game was postponed due to darkness, Dallas faced a long day of baseball as a doubleheader was also scheduled for today. Dallas dropped their postponed game 10-6 in the 11th inning which was played prior to the doubleheader.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Dallas got on the scoreboard first scoring a run in the 2nd and 4th innings, but they gave up 10 runs in the last 3 frames to lose 10-4. Junior righty Austin Cooper (Afton, OK/Afton H.S.) pitched well in the first four frames, shutting out Hendrix. In the 5th inning, Hendrix scored 3 runs, 2 of them earned. Errors hurt Dallas greatly, as Hendrix scored 6 runs on Dallas' 7 errors. Hendrix had their way on the base paths stealing 8 bases.

Sophomore outfielder Devin Arnold (McKinney, TX/McKinney H.S.) had a great day for Dallas. He went 3 for 3 and scored twice. Junior infielder David Rettinger (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic H.S.) and freshman infielder Trevor Allred (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.) each had a hit and a run scored.

Dallas played much better in the second game of their doubleheader, committing no errors and allowing only 3 steals. Sophomore right hander Michael Schweiss (Parker, CO/Chaparral H.S.) pitched a very solid 7 inning complete game. He gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 8 batters and only walking one. All 3 of those runs came in the 5th inning when Schweiss got into trouble. Besides the inning, Schweiss was dominant. The majority of his strikeouts were swinging strikeouts, as he consistently fooled batters throughout the afternoon.

Leading Dallas at the plate was infielder Sean McSheffery, (Woodridge, IL/Downers Grove North) who is the lone returning senior on the team. He had a great afternoon going 3 for 4 and making several great plays in the field as well. Junior infielder Martin Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) contributed a hit and scored Dallas' only run of the game.

The Crusaders travel to Alpine, TX next weekend to take on the Sul Ross State University Lobos. Dallas plays Sul Ross in two, 7 innings games Saturday and one, 9 inning game on Sunday. The first game on Saturday and the game on Sunday start at 12:05pm.
