First-year Tigers
Declan Maguire and
Dylan Brown combined for seven goals and a pair of assists to help the Colorado College men's lacrosse team roll to a dominating 20-5 victory at Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon.
Maguire scored once in every quarter, and his first goal ignited a 10-0 run that snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Tigers a 11-1 lead after 30 minutes.
Brown's first collegiate goal put CC ahead 4-1 in the first quarter and he added two more goals and a pair of assists in the second half to help the Tigers pull away.
The Pirates scored three of the first four goals in the second half to whittle their deficit to 12-4 midway through the third quarter, but
Elliot Nelson scored 1:34 later to triggered a six-goal outburst that gave
Colorado College an 18-4 lead and any thoughts of a Southwestern comeback.
Anders Erickson continued his hot start to the season with three goals, while
Makay Hansen and
Jacob Smith struck for two goals apiece.
First-year goaltender
Ben Anastos improved to 2-0 with a seven-save effort.
Billy Hutchison and
Ben Bradshaw recorded two caused turnovers apiece, while
John Lawrence and
Arvin Fieldman each finished with three ground balls.
Drew Alvarado finished with 16 saves for the Pirates.
Coach's Comments
"Our team showed up ready to play today," head coach
Sean Woods said. "We played very consistent on the defensive end and in the riding and clearing game. Our offense was explosive with a 10-goal run and then a 6-goal run. We also got some break-out performances from two of our freshmen in
Declan Maguire and
Dylan Brown, which was exciting to see."
Colorado College Standouts
Noah Beecher recorded a goal and two assists.
Rob Hudson scored his first collegiate goal.
Southwestern Standouts
Zac Asbury had two assists for the Pirates.
Hudson Bearden won 13 of 20 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls.

Colorado College improved to 2-0.
Southwestern slipped to 1-1.
