
The Southwestern women's tennis team looked impressive in their first head to head matches this season by defeating Texas Lutheran and Schreiner 9-0.

In doubles action the Pirates lost only two games through all matches as SU took all three doubles match-ups. Victoria DeLeon and Jessica Gaines defeated Mannell/Davis 8-2. Emily Gutzer and Lali Satyavada dominated Lopez/Rodriguez 8-0 as did Sarah Johnson and Abigail Sedory who bested Hafterson/Flayer 8-0.
The strong play continued through singles matches. DeLeon defeated Mannel 6-1, 6-2 while Gaines was all over the court as she beat Davis 6-0, 6-0. Satyavada kept things rolling with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lopez and Gutzmer followed suit with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Rodriguez. Johnson and Hogenson rounded out the onslought as they both won 6-1, 6-0 over Hafterson and Castille respectively.

The Pirates continued their success into day two of weekend action, winning 9-0 at Schreiner. SU swept doubles matches with DeLeon and Gaines defeating Martinez/Phillips 8-3, Gutzmer/Satyavada beat Collenback/Carrasco 8-1 and Johnson/Sedory won over Fox/Pop 8-0.
SU swept singles action as well but DeLeon had the toughest match-up of the day, narrowly beating Martinez 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. Satyavada, Johnson and Hodgenson all had perfect matches, not dropping a single set as all three won 6-0, 6-0. Gutzmer was just behind as she defeated Collenback 6-0, 6-1 and Sedory won by default over Pope.
The Pirates continue action at Letourneau on Friday and UT-Tyler on Saturday.
