#3 Tigers snap Pirates’ win streak

#3 Tigers snap Pirates’ win streak

GEORGETOWN, Texas -  With a 4-0 loss on Wednesday evening, the Southwestern women's soccer team's three-game win streak was snapped by the #3 Trinity Tigers.

Trinity needed just a few minutes to gain control of the game as they scored in the fourth minute to put the Pirates down early.

Despite the early goal, Southwestern picked things up defensively and were able to keep the Tigers from extending their lead quickly, particularly with the play of right back Audrey Silver.

Carol Bentley had the best opportunity of the match for the Pirates with a laser shot from 25 yards out that was just inches over the crossbar.

Just before halftime, Trinity dug a bigger hole for the Pirates to climb out of in the second half with two goals in four minutes. Julie Camp put home two tough crosses and sent SU into the break trailing 3-0.

Trinity continued to look dangerous as the second half got underway, but the Pirates were able to keep them from adding to their lead by forcing tough shots. It wasn't until the Tigers' Maggie Olvera one-touched a low cross from Colleen Markey to move TU's lead to four.

Southwestern trailed 31-3 in shots and 10-1 in corners but Southwestern keepers Katherine Rodgers and Kylie Hunt combined for ten saves on the evening.

SU falls to 3-8-1 on the year and 3-2 in the SCAC while Trinity remains atop the conference at 10-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the SCAC.

The Pirates remain at home to face Centenary College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
