Women's Basketball Loses to Chapman in California

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team struggled early, falling to Chapman with a 73-60 loss.

The Pirates scored only eight points in the first quarter, shooting 3-for-8 from the field and 0-for-2 from deep while surrendering 15 points to Chapman.

Southwestern improved as the game went along, improving on its quarter by quarter score, totaling 13, 18, and 21 through the final three. Noel Pratts led the Pirates with 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting and point guard Cydnee Lester had 10 points and eight assists.

Emma Lewis added 12 off the bench, hitting 4-for-8 from deep, accounting for half of the Pirates' eight 3-pointers (on 21 attempts).

Four Chapman players scored in double figures, led by Julia Strand, who had 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting with five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Marissaa Dunn had 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists and Lucy Criswell (13 points, 6 rebounds) and Brittany McPherson (10 points, 5 assists) combined for 23 of Chapman's 23.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 0-2 on the season. Southwestern will scrimmage Division II St. Edward's University on Tuesday, Nov. 12 on the road, then travel to face the University of Texas-Dallas on Saturday, Nov. 16.
