SEWANEE, Tenn. - Southwestern women's soccer dropped their SCAC conference opener on Friday evening to the Sewanee Tigers, 2-0. The Pirates fall to 4-3-1 on the year while Sewanee improves to 3-6-1.

Southwestern's Maria Pollifrone got the first look of the second half, starting the new period off well for the Pirates, but Sewanee came back strong with three corners and three shots in less than 10 minutes.

The Tigers made it a two goal advantage in the 66th minute on a goal by Bess Goodman, further dashing SU's hopes.

Southwestern was outshot 23-9 in the contest and had nine fewer corner kick opportunities (10-1). Sarah Nonaka recorded eight saves in goal for the Pirates while Claire Matthews (pictured) led in shots with two, both on frame.

The Pirates look to rebound and pull even in the conference at their next match on Sunday afternoon as they take on Centre who fell 2-1 to Trinity in double-overtime tonight.
