No. 1 Blugolds Split the Final Day of Trinity National Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, TX (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team continued play in the Trinity National Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches against AVCA.org top-25 opponents. The No. 1 ranked Blugolds defeated No. 24 Transylvania University in straight sets, 3-0, and fell to No. 5 Trinity University, 0-3.

UW-Eau Claire started the day on a high note with their best hitting set of the season to open game two with a 37.5% and a 25-23 victory. Selena Levendoski (Sr. – Clear Lake, WI/Clayton) led the Blugold offense with four kills on five attempts in the opening frame. Levendoski finished the first matchup with seven kills and totaled 15 kills on the day. Hannah Flottmeyer (Sr. – Madison, WI/Middleton) tallied four kills in the second set to push UWEC to another 25-23 victory.

Jordan Witzel (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) helped seal the deal in the third and final set with four of her game high eight kills to earn the 25-17 victory. Charlie Nelson (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/Farmington) recorded 24 assists and three service aces.

The second game saw a very different story play out for Eau Claire as fought to the end of every set but fell to Trinity in straight sets. Hannah Flottmeyer led the team with a career high ten kills. Charlie Nelson assisted on 31 kills and Sheridan Dettman held 17 digs.

The final two sets found Eau Claire within one point of the Trinity Tigers at 24-23, but the home team finished through to take down the Blugolds.

Charlie Nelson and Sheridan Dettmann (Sr. - Watertown, WI) were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The Blugolds (2-1, WIAC 0-0) will return to the Midwest and participate in the Auggie invite on September 9th and 10th. UWEC will face Pacific Luteran (Wash.), Augsburg (MN), Minn. Morris, and Gustavus Adolphus over the weekend slate.
