Colorado College took over first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a dramatic five-set victory at Trinity University on Saturday afternoon.
CC, ranked No. 4 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches Poll, won the final two sets to defeat No. 9 Trinity 26-24, 16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13 at Calgaard Gymnasium.
Colorado College improved to 25-2 overall and 12-1 in the SCAC.
Junior middle hitter
Marguerite Spaethling put down three of her team-leading 15 kills for CC during the third set, which contained seven ties and three lead changes.
TU took a 7-5 lead on a kill by Avery Tuggle, only to see Colorado College respond with four consecutive points, the last two on back-to-back kills by Spaethling.
An attack error allowed Trinity to level the score at 13-13, but CC completed the comeback victory with a kill by sophomore outside hitter

Lizzy Counts became the third player in program history to record 3,000 assists in her career. Counts finished the match with 27 assists and four digs.
Colorado College extended the match thanks in part to its side-out efficiency in the fourth set. With the score tied at 20-20, CC took the lead for good on a block by Spaethling and junior outside hitter
Jordan Mullen, who made her first appearance of the season in the match. On the next play, a Mullen kill made the score 22-20.
Trinity pulled to within a point three times, but CC squared the match at two sets apiece on a kill by junior middle hitter
Haley Harris, who had six of her 14 kills in the fourth set.
Harris added 13 digs to complete her 11 double-double of the season.
Colorado College also made clutch plays in the first set. With the score ties at 23-23, CC utilized kills by Spaethling and sophomore setter
Isabelle Aragon-Menzel to take the early lead.
Senior middle hitter
Myca Steffey-Bean also reached double-digit kills with 11 for Colorado College.
Junior libero
Anna Gurolnick led CC with 24 digs, the fourth time this season she had recorded more than 20.
Tuggle led TU with a match-high 18 kills and 24 digs. Madeline McKay finished with 15 kills, while Emma Funk added 13.
Emily Ellis had eight kills and a hand in seven blocked shots.
Colorado College began the day with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 win over Texas Lutheran University.
Harris led the Tigers with 13 kills, while Steffey-Bean and Spaethling added 12 and 11, respectively.
Gurolnick recorded a team-leading 16 digs for CC.
Colorado College wraps up the weekend on Sunday against Schreiner University at 2 p.m. CT.
