CC Slips Into Tie for First in SCAC

Colorado College slipped into a virtual tie for first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after dropping a 25-10, 25-22, 25-13 to Trinity University on Saturday afternoon at the conference crossover matches at Austin College.

No. 6 CC slipped to 25-3 overall and 13-1 in the SCAC. No. 9 Trinity improved to 26-4 and 14-1 in conference play.

TU leveled the season series at one match apiece, with both victories ending in three sets. The rubber match could occur on Nov. 10 at the SCAC Championships in Seguin, Texas, if both teams advance to the final.

Jordan Mullen hit .462 and led Colorado College with seven kills.

Senior middle hitter Marguerite Spaethling made her season debut and had five kills on 13 attempts with just one error.

CC looked as though it would level the match at one set apiece after sprinting to a 7-2 lead early in the second frame. Trinity relied to tie the score at 13-13 and went on to build a 2016 spread.

Colorado College clawed its way back with a 5-1 surge to make the score 21-21, but after the teams traded points, TU scored the final three points to take control of the match.  

Trinity became the first team to hit better than .248 against CC, finishing the match with a .306 percentage. Meanwhile, Colorado College hit a season-low .076.
 
Colorado College Standouts
Lizzy Counts dished out 26 assists and added nine digs.
Georgia Mullins produced five kills and a hand in three blocked shots.
 
Trinity Standouts
Annie Rose Leggett finished with a match-high 11 kills.
Emily Ellis hit .667 with eight kills on 12 swings without an error.
Sami Lin had a match-high 15 digs.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College faces the University of St. Thomas at 5 p.m. CT in in second of two Saturday matches.
