Chris Lesnansky scored 18 points as Colorado College opened the season with an 81-64 victory over Blackburn College in the 2014 CC Tip-Off Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.
The Tigers will play George Fox University in Sunday's championship game at 2 p.m. The Bruins defeated Grinnell College in the tournament's first game.
Lesnansky, who connected on eight of 11 shots from the floor and both of his free throws, climbed into 15th place on the program's career scoring list with 1,119 points.
Junior guard
Luke Winfield scored 11 of his career-high 13 points during the first half when CC overcame an early 7-0 deficit to take a 45-34 lead into the break.
Colorado College took its first lead when Lesnansky completed a three-point play midway through the first half. After the Beavers tied the score at 26-26, Winfield scored four points during an 8-1 run that saw the Tigers open a 34-27 lead.
Blackburn pulled to within five points with 2:42 to play in the first half, but CC answered with seven consecutive points to take its first double-digit lead.
Colorado College took control of the game with a 12-0 run early in the second half and built a 75-55 lead with 6:19 to play.
Junior forward
James Lonergan added 11 points and dished out four assists, while sophomore forward
Mitch Carter tied his career high with four assists.
Junior forward Henry Hicks and sophomore guard Chris Davis led the Beavers with 11 points apiece. Junior forward Jamie Moore pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
In the first game of the day, Brendin Quinn scored 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead George Fox to a 124-114 victory over Grinnell.
The Bruins led 89-68 with 10:30 to play, but the Pioneers pulled to within 120-114 when Jack Taylor connected for three of his 40 points with 18 seconds remaining.
