GEORGETOWN, Texas –

Childress caught five passes for 119 yards in the contest. He gave the Cowboys (1-0) the lead for good just before halftime, as he was on the receiving end of a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Breton.

Breton and Childress hooked up for touchdowns of 41 and 46 yards in the final half.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Pirates (1-0) got on the board first, as Luke Fierst drilled a 37-yard field goal with 12:29 to play in the second period.

However, it was the only points for the Bucs in the season opener.

Nik Kelly picked off a Breton pass on the first play of the second quarter, which set up the lone scoring drive for Southwestern.

On the offensive side of the ball, Bryan Hicks completed 19 of 32 pass attempts for 151 yards. He spread the ball around to eight different receivers during the contest. Dante Smith and Kenneth Wynn Jr. both caught five passes from Hicks.

The Bucs had 222 yards of total offense, while Hardin-Simmons rolled up 355.

The Pirates will return to action next Saturday against McMurry. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
