Tigers undefeated on Day 1 of CC Classic

The No. 13 Colorado College volleyball team went undefeated in the first day of the Molten Colorado College Classic, Friday in Reid Gymnasium.

Colorado College started the day with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-14) sweep of Whitman College.

The Tigers held the Missionaries to a season-low .010 (24-23-96) hitting percentage to earn the win.

Freshman Kristen Liberty hit a team-best .750 hitting percentage with 16 kills on 20 attacks and had only one error to lead CC on offense. Senior Amy Schornack dished out a team-high 33 assists.

Junior Laura Goldsmith had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Senior Hannah Varnell led the Tigers on defense with 15 digs.

Colorado College ended the night with another 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) sweep over Whitworth College to end the night undefeated.

Midway through the first two sets the Tigers had to fight back from four-point deficits to come up with the win.

Goldsmith had her second double-double of the day with a team-high 10 kills along with 14 digs to lead the Tigers.

Colorado College had a season-high nine service aces with Liberty and Goldsmith both getting three service aces each.

Schornack handed out 35 assists to help lead the offense, while Varnell had 15 digs to lead the defense for the Tigers.

The Tigers are now 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CC Classic.

The tournament continues on Saturday when Whitman takes on Whitworth at 10 a.m. Colorado College faces undefeated Dominican University at noon. The third-place match will be played at 2 p.m. with the championship match at 4 p.m.
