The Rhodes baseball team defeated Blackburn College 18-6 at Stauffer field this afternoon. Rhodes spotted the Beavers 2 runs in the top of the first but were able to answer back with 4 in the bottom of the inning and put the game away with a 6 run second and 4 run third. Sophomore
Brian Lainoff picked up his second victory of the season, as the Lynx improve to 10-3 on the year.
Lainoff worked the first 2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs, and struck out 2 in the designed pitcher by committee game for the Lynx pitching staff. Freshman
Tony Pikos struck out 1 and did not allow a runner to reach base in the 3rd. Senior
Max Gertz threw the 4th, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 2. Junior
Matt Ungashick struck out 1 in the 5th. Sophomore
Remick Smothers allowed 1 unearned run, 2 hits, and struck out 2 in the 6th. Freshman
James Todd allowed 1 hit, 3 unearned runs, 1 walk, and struck out 1 in the seventh.
The Lynx offense got things going early and did not look back the entire game, putting up 18 runs, 13 hits, and took advantage of 12 free passes by the Blackburn pitching staff. Junior C
Chris Conkell was 2-2 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and walked once. Senior SS

Matt Gilbert was 2-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and stole a base. Freshman 1B
Matt Burnick 1-2 with a run scored, an RBI, and hit his first collegiate homerun. Freshman
Nolan Bielinski was 1-2 with 2 RBIs.
The Lynx will return to action this Tuesday at Stauffer Field against Millsaps College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00.
