Celts Win Close Game Against LeTourneau 73-69

Celts Win Close Game Against LeTourneau 73-69

Men's Basketball picked up a clutch 73-69 victory over LeTourneau this Tuesday night. Both teams kept it close the entire duration of the game, yet a 10 point scoring run by St. Thomas late in the second half secured the win.

The first half got off to a rocky start for St. Thomas as an eight point LeTourneau run gave them the advantage. This led to a 10 point lead just nine minutes into the game. However, the Celts were able to respond and go on a nine point run of their own to get within striking distance, as two threes from Ricky Altamirano put them in position to take the lead. It was the Celt bench that came up huge with 25 points in the half and eventually allowed the lead to go into St. Thomas favor. With three minutes left, the Celts jumped out to a five point lead. However, the YellowJackets scored at the buzzer to cut the Celt lead to three, 35-32 at the half. In the second half, the Celts and the Jackets nearly went point for point adding 38 and 37 to their scores respectively. However, the difference was Celt shooting as St. Thomas 68 percent from the floor, and creating a 10 point lead with 2 minutes left. 13 costly YellowJacket turnovers also fueled a tight 73-69 Celt victory as time expired.

Four Celts were in double figures at the end of the game. Calvin Williams IV and Calen Anderson had 12 each. In addition Ricky Altamirano and Andrew Adebo scored 10 apiece. Adebo secured a double-double with 10 rebounds and Zack Golaszewski had four assists.

Up next, the Celts return to SCAC play against Austin College at home on December 30th. Come and support your Celts at the JAAC!
