SEGUIN, TX -- Freshman Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) racked up a game-high 21 points off the bench for the Bulldogs and Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) tallied 18 points with both bringing down a team-high 5 rebounds on Saturday night to help propel Texas Lutheran to a 79-76 victory over McMurry University inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Mulkey finished the contest shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) also finished in double-digits notching 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting.
Texas Lutheran led 19-17 after a closely contested first quarter. The Bulldogs shot 42% in the first half taking a 40-30 lead into halftime.
The War Hawks were able to cut into the Bulldogs lead throughout the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 29-24 in the fourth, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for a three-point victory thanks to clutch free throws from Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan).
The Bulldogs finished the game with a 49.2% (29-59) mark from the floor and shot 38.1% (8-21) from distance.
