Men's Soccer Edged in Home Opener

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team battled visiting LeTourneau University in a defensive struggle on Saturday night, but the Yellow Jackets broke through with a goal in the 70th minute to give the 'Roos a 1-0 defeat. The 'Roos are now 0-2 on the year.

Neither side was able to muster much offense in the early going, with LeTourneau firing just three shots compared to six for the 'Roos in the opening half. Both teams put just one shot on target, though the 'Roos nearly got on the board early when Louis Catchpole's shot went off the post in the 15th minute. Instead, the two teams went into the break with no score.

LeTourneau started to turn up the heat offensively in the second half, out-shooting the 'Roos 10-4 after the break, and it paid off in the 70th minute when Chino Rojas found the back of the net on a feed from Niko Stavros to put the Jackets on top 1-0. That's how things would end, with Austin College unable to find the equalizer in the game's closing minutes.

Connor Tullis made four saves for Austin College, while CJ Leyva stopped both shots he faced for the Jackets.
