GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern men's basketball team committed 26 turnovers as they lost their home opener on Friday afternoon 76-56 to Wisconsin-River Falls. The loss drops SU to 1-4 on the year while the Falcons improve to 4-1.

The Pirates scored the first points of the game on a layup by Logan Hurley but that is the largest lead Southwestern could muster as Wisconsin-River Falls continued to build on the lead throughout the first half. Southwestern didn't score in the final four minutes of the period which allowed the Falcons to go into halftime up 14, 35-21.

SU struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 33.3% from the floor and 22.2% from the three point line. Hurley had 11 of Southwestern's 21 first half point and just three other Pirates scored in the period.

As the second half got underway Southwestern's cold shooting continued as UWRF went on a 18-6 run to go up by 26 with just over 13 minutes to play. The Pirates put together a strong run, pulling with in 19 points just a minute and a half later, but were unable to sustain the momentum as the Falcons kept SU at an arms length for the remainder of the game.

Southwestern shot extremely well from the field in the second half, 65% from the floor and 50% from long range, but had just 20 attempts due to the turnovers.

Hurley was the lone Pirate in double figures with 17 points. Senior Jonathan Brown had six boards and five assists to lead Southwestern. The Falcons' Aaron Anderson led all scorers with 18 points.

As a team Southwestern was -9 in rebounds and +8 in turnovers.

The Pirates have some time to regroup before their next match where they open up SCAC conference action against Trinity on Friday, December 3 at 8:00 pm.
