Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Heartbreaker

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team controlled possession for most of its game against Johnson & Wales University, but the Wildcats found the net with just over a minute remaining in the first overtime to hand the 'Roos a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 3-10-1 overall and 0-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College had several strong scoring chances in each half but were unable to tally, out-shooting Johnson & Wales 11-6 in the first half and staying on the attack for the bulk of the second frame. After halftime, the 'Roos held a 10-3 shot advantage and put five on target but once again were unable to find the back of the net, sending the game into overtime.

Just as it appeared the game was headed for a second overtime, Johnson & Wales sent a long throw-in into the box and AJ Watters headed the ball down toward the left post, squeezing it just inside for the golden goal with 1:05 remaining.

Juan Rodriguez made two saves for Austin College and Brandon Coder had 10 stops for the Wildcats as the 'Roos finished the game with a 22-10 edge in shots. The 'Roos are home again on Friday for Homecoming as they play host to St. Thomas at 8:00 p.m.
