Softball continued their opening weekend road trip at Mary Hardin Baylor with a doubleheader. At the end of both games, the Celts ended up splitting the series.

Game 1: UST 0 UMHB 1 (8 Innings)

It was a battle of pitching in the opening game as neither pitcher wanted to give opposing batters an inch. St. Thomas generated just two hits on offense against Mary Hardin Baylor's three. Each team would give up at least one error, but none generated a run. At the end of seven innings of action, the score was still 0-0. Then in extras, UMHB secured the game with a sacrifice fly, which was just enough to bring the third base runner home for the 1-0 victory. 

Alli Hughes had her second start of the year and pitched the whole game for the Celts. Hughes finished the game with 7.2 innings of work, giving up just one run on three hits. 

Game 2: UST 4 UMHB 2

In game two, the Celt bats broke out for eight hits in the game. After UMHB plated two runners in the bottom of the fourth, St. Thomas responded with a four-run sixth inning. The rally was kicked off with a Chloe Bennett solo home run, which led to three consecutive hits. Kayleigh Deakle added to the lead with a double to bring home Adelyn Beccera as the score was now tied 2-2. The Celts werent finished, as Deakle came home after a costly UMHB error. Then Mallarie Munson delivered a clutch double to score Jaelyn Simmons and give St. Thomas the 2-0 lead. From there, the Celts never looked back and won 4-2.

Bailey Tisdale pitched a complete game for St. Thomas going all seven innings and limiting the Crusaders to just four hits. Tisdale faced 25 batters and picked up her first win of the season.

Up next, softball returns home for a two game series with UH Victoria. The games will be played Tuesday February 21st, with first pitch set for 12:30 pm. Come out to West University Softball Association to support your Celts!
