Box Score The two men's soccer heavyweights in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference went toe-to-toe on Friday night and the reigning champs came out on top by a split decision.

Second-ranked Trinity built a two-goal lead in the 49th minute and held on for a 2-1 victory over Colorado College at Paul McGinlay Field.

The Texas Tigers broke through in the 30th minute when Brent Mandelkorn deflected a kick by CC junior goalkeeper Theo Hooker and the ball trickled into the net.

Mandelkorn set up what proved to be the game winner early in the second half, sending a cross to the middle of the box for a first-touch shot by Christian Sakshaug into the bottom left corner.  

Colorado College got on the board in the 90th minute when one of its players was pulled down in the box and senior midfielder Caden MacKenzie scored from the penalty spot.

MacKenzie extended his goal-scoring streak to a career-best three games.

CC finished with a slight edge in total shots (14-12) and corner kicks (5-4).

Hooker finished with five saves for Colorado College, which slipped to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the SCAC.

Todd Whittaker stopped six shots for Trinity.

TU improved to 5-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

The teams will meet again on Friday, Oct. 7, at CC's Washburn Field.

Colorado College wraps up its two-game trip to the Lone Star State on Sunday at Schreiner University in Kerrville.
