SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – After a hot start in Texas, Cal Lutheran would face Trinity and Mary Hardin-Baylor and they would try and continue their good start to their road trip. Trinity would put those hopes to a complete halt as they swept the Kingsmen 9-0, but CLU would rebound to walk away with a 7-2 victory over UMHB.
Match 1
There were six singles matches and three doubles matches in the first contest.
Darvel Lossangoye would be the number one but was beat out 6-2, 6-2 respectively both times.
Along with Lossangoye, his number two and three Spina and Sebastian Ariza were unable to steal a match.
The remainder of the singles were also shut out which gave the Tigers a full sweep in the singles matches.
The three doubles matches ended in a similar manner which made it a tough day for the Kingsmen on the court.
The first team duo of Isaiah Volk and Jake Haffner would drop their match 8-3
The second duo Lossangoye and Charlie Spina would get a little closer with the match ending 8-4 in favor of Trinity.
Finally, the third duo of Ben Vincze and Ryan Murphy would fall short by a score of 8-3.
Match 2
In the second match of the day, the Kingsmen performed much better as they picked up a 7-2 victory to get back in the win column.
Cal Lutheran got started right away as Haffer and Erik Lundeberg won their match 8-2. Lossangoye and Spina followed with an 8-3 win of their own to but CLU out in front.
On the singles side, Haffner occupied the number-one spot and prevailed in a tiebreak to take his match 6-0, 7-6 (4).
Lossangoye continued his great run of form with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Spina did well in the number three spot and walked away with a 6-3, 6-1 win before Ariza extended the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 match win.
In the final match of the day, Lundeberg went the distance with his opponent and pulled off the three-set victory, winning his match 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
