Tigers Rout Southwestern to Claim SCAC Championship

Colorado College lived up to its No. 19 national ranking with an 18-1 victory over Southwestern University in the championship game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday afternoon at Washburn Field.

Junior attacker Allie Thuet led the Tigers with three goals and three assists, while freshman attacker Bella Beattie finished with three goals and an assist.

Eva King, who finished the game with two goals and three assists, was named the championship's Offensive MVP after producing 10 points for the weekend.

The junior attacker finished the weekend with 10 points, giving her 91 for the season, which set a conference record for points in a single season. King surpassed the mark of 89 set by Southwestern's Hayley Donnelly during Saturday's victory over the University of Dallas. Donnelly did not record a point in Sunday's game.

With her first goal just 1:51 into the game, King became the eighth player in program history to reach the 200-point mark.

CC's Lauren Pejza earned the Defensive MVP honor for recording eight draw controls and a pair of ground balls against the Pirates.

She also struck for Colorado College's second goal, which proved to be the game winner, just 35 seconds into the contest.

Maggie O'Donnell finished the game with two goals and a pair of assists, running her cumulative point total to 75, which ranks eighth on CC's single-season list.

Senior midfielder Nikki Blair struck for two goals and set up one more for the Tigers.

Colorado College struck for three goals during the first minute of the game and never looked back while improving to 17-1 for the season.

The Tigers led 10-0 just 7:16 into the game and extended their lead to 15-0 after 30 minutes.

CC tacked on the first three scores of the second half before Natasha Perez-Krause broke up the shutout with 4:31 remaining in the game.

While the offense grabbed the headlines, the Tigers' defense was every bit as impressive while not allowing a goal for more than 55 minutes. Southwestern entered the game averaging 17.45 goals per game, which ranked 10th nationally.

Alena Stern stopped all five shots she faced during a little more than 43 minutes of action. The sophomore goaltender lowered her season goals-against average to 8.39 and improved her saves percentage to .529.

Midfielders Molly Dibble, Ellie Meyer and Sophie Murphy, and defender Cassis Schafer all recorded a pair of caused turnovers for Colorado College.

Dibble and Schafer each scooped up a team-high four ground balls.

The Tigers won 18 of 21 ground balls and registered a 32-7 advantage in ground balls.

CC launched 44 total shots, compared to just eight for the Southwestern.

Junior goaltender Mckenna Zinke stopped 18 shots for the Pirates, who finished the season with a 7-6 record.

Colorado College will learn its postseason fate when the bracket for the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship is unveiled on Sunday, May 9, at 7 p.m. MT.
