Crusaders Split Saturday's Matches in Millsaps/Belhaven Invite; Edge Central Baptist in 5

JACKSON, Miss. - The University of Dallas volleyball team earned a split on Saturday with a pair of matches held at Millsaps College, as part of day two of the Millsaps/Belhaven Invite. Dallas (3-5) went 3-1 over the four-match weekend that started Saturday morning with a 3-1 setback to Huntingdon College (4-4). The Crusaders rebounded with a 3-2 victory over Central Baptist College (4-5) in the early afternoon that featured a comeback for Dallas taking the last two sets in convincing fashion. Ellise Anable (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the team with a season-high 14 kills and hit .455 in the match. She also added nine digs for second on the team. Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) and Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) followed with nine and eight kills, respectively. Stephanie Janysek (Sinton, Texas) had a season-best 19 assists.

Amy Tyma paced the Hawks with a game-high 18 kills, while Addison Genard reached double figures as well with 13. April Reese contribute nine kills to go with 13 digs, which matched Tyma for second on the team with 13 for her double-double. Ashley Murphy secured 35 assists to polish a strong Huntingdon offense that registered a .328 kill percentage.

The Crusaders traded wins in the first two sets with Central Baptist, dropping the first by two points and then going off to win by seven. The Mustangs won 25-16 in the third set to gain a 2-1 set lead, but UD answered with a 40-22 difference over the deciding frames to earn the winning weekend.

Anable matched a season-best on the day with 14 kills and hit .522. The sophomore outside hitter also had 12 digs for her first double-double on the campaign. Porras followed closely behind in kills with 13 and notched 12 digs for a double-double of her own. Porras hit .450 in the match, too.

Larissa Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas) garnered a personal-best 31 assists, while Janysek posted 14. The team had 50. Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) collected 23 digs for her second highest amount and second time to eclipse 20. Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas), Garcia, and Anna Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) combined for 10 of UD's 14 block assists. Garcia added a solo block to match her with Whyte's team-high four.


UP NEXT

Dallas plays three matches as part of its home-opening weekend on September 13-14 in the University of Dallas Invitational. The Crusaders will play Alfred State and McMurry University on Friday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. They wrap things up with Milsaps College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
