Ladies Fall In SCAC Opener At Schreiner On Friday

Kerrville, Texas - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Schreiner University Mountaineers in their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday afternoon at Mountaineer Soccer Field.

The Ladies dropped to 0-8-1 overall and 0-1 SCAC while Schreiner improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in SCAC play. The Mountaineers won for the first time at home this season and now lead the all-time series over the Ladies 10-8-3.

Schreiner took an early lead in the match as Cassandra Ochoa connected on a penalty kick in the 13th minute for a 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers took that lead into halftime and added a goal in the 50th minute, an unassisted score by Ashley Esparaza to make it 2-0. Centenary finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots and took five shots on goal but could not cash in. Schreiner took four corner kicks to Centenary's three and the teams combined for 14 fouls.

Sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) played all 90 minutes and made a pair of saves. Schreiner GK Audrey Rivera recorded five saves in her 90 minutes. Four Ladies played all 90 minutes of the match while five Schreiner players went the distance.

The Ladies complete the weekend with a match at Trinity in San Antonio on Sunday set for Noon.
