Celts defeat Centenary 2-1 for fourth straight win

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas claimed their fourth consecutive victory Friday, defeating Centenary College (La.) 2-1.

Luis Bencomo, who was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his performances last weekend, continued his torrid pace by scoring both goals for the Celts. They were his second and third goals of the season.

With the win, the Celts (8-5) remained in a three-way tie atop the SCAC table with a 4-1 conference record.

Bencomo scored off a corner kick barely five minutes after opening whistle. He added his second goal shortly before the half-hour mark, with Jose Duarte getting the assist.

UST goalkeeper Pedro Medrano made five saves for the Celts. His only blemish came off a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

The Celts return to action next Friday when they visit Austin College. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.
