Wittenberg Stays Unbeaten With Overtime Win At DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers passed the first significant test of the 2008 season, working overtime to defeat host DePauw 1-0 in Friday night non-conference action.

The shutout was Wittenberg's third straight in the young season as the Tigers improved to 3-0. The Tigers previously defeated visiting Alma and Olivet last weekend by scores of 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.

While the score was very close, the visiting Tigers from Wittenberg got the best of things for most of the game, accumulating 24 shots to DePauw's nine. Wittenberg forced DePauw's goalkeeper into seven saves, while the Tigers' Jordan Bamberger (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was credited with three stops in Wittenberg's net.

Offensively, Wittenberg finally cashed in at the 94:57 mark as senior forward Corey Shubitowski (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) scored the game's only goal on a header in the penalty box. Senior midfielder Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) assisted on the play, which started as a set piece off a free kick.

The Tigers put the wraps on the weekend with a game against Emory University at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. That game will also be played at DePauw.
