Tigers Close out Weekend at Pebworth Invite

The Colorado College women's swimming team closed out their weekend in Indiana at the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational, placing fifth out of 10 teams with 664.5 points. Franklin College took first overall with 1010.5 points.

"It was exciting to see our people really step up and race today," head coach Anne Goodman James said. "We saw amazing races from Malia Hewitt in the 200 breaststroke…Alexis Lee was impressive this weekend in the backstroke events, and she was also our fastest splits on the 400 and 800 free relays."

The Tigers had top five places in multiple events and continued to drop new personal bests against some of the best competition they've seen this season.

To kick off the final evening session, Alyssa Tunggal placed seventh in the 100-yard IM, touching in 1:03.18. Tunggal later placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:14.19 finish.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Alexis Lee placed second overall as the sophomore recorded a time of 2:05.56, a personal best.

Lee, alongside Gina Lynch, Grace Ersfeld -O'Brien and Adeline Turner, placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, touching in 3:35.96. In the 100-yard freestyle, Lynch and Turner placed in the top ten, with Lynch earning fourth-place honors with a time of 53.48, and Turner touched tenth with a 54.50 finish.

CC's other second-place individual finish was in the 200-yard breaststroke when Malia Hewitt nearly won the event with a time of 2:22.87 but was out-touched by four one-hundredths of a second. Isabella Cole finished sixth in the same event after finishing in 2:29.84.

In the longest race of the weekend, the 1,650 freestyle, Emma Phillips rounded out the top five with a fifth-place time of 18:13.77

"This meet was an excellent match for our team, with most people making finals each day. It was excellent preparation for the championship part of our season," Anne Goodman James said. "I'm really proud of our team and the toughness they demonstrated."

The Tigers will return to diving action when they travel to Midland, Texas, on Dec. 1 to take on Division II foe, Texas Permian Basin. The next duel meet will be at another DII opponent, CSU Pueblo, on Dec. 9.
