Porter Earns 100th Win as No. 38 Men's Tennis Sweeps ETBU

GEORGETOWN - Southwestern men's tennis had one of their best showings this season as they defeated ETBU 9-0 Friday evening, and what timing to put together their best effort, as they were able to give Head Coach Billy Porter his 100th career win.

The Pirates started strong with three wins in doubles. Alexis Dimanche and Grant Gideon teamed up in #1 doubles to win 8-2. David Strong and Tyler Norman easily won at #2 doubles 8-4 and Dean Dulthummon and Jeremy Wilson made quick work of the Tigers at #3, winning 8-3.

"David continues to be a force in doubles and his continuous improvement is extremely noticeable which is helping Tyler develop into a better doubles player," said Porter.

Dimanche started singles off on the right note with a quick 6-2, 6-2 win in #1 singles. Alonso Fernandez followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 win in #6 singles. Norman (6-3, 6-2) and Dulthummon (6-1, 6-3) took straight set wins in #4 and #3 singles, respectively.

"Dean had himself quite the night and played his best tennis of the year," said Porter. "He was smart, energized and am really happy to seem him play at the level he did"

Jeremy Wilson dropped his opening set 5-7 in #5 singles but rallied to win the second 6-2 and sealed the win with a 6-3 win in set three. Gideon secured the sweep with the final win of the day at #2 singles, 6-7, 6-0, 10-8.

"Grant's heart was tested again and once again he dug deep and found a way to pull it out," said Porter. "After being up 5-2 to lose the first set 16-14 in the breaker and then win the second 6-0 was a true test of his character. The 10-8 win in the breaker was big for him"

The Pirates head out West next week as they first face Linfield on Saturday at 11 am CST.
