Texas Lutheran Knocks Off Austin College in SCAC Quarterfinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) had 16 kills and a block to lead the Texas Lutheran volleyball team to a 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14 victory Friday afternoon against Austin College in the SCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on the campus of Colorado College. The match was a quarterfinal rematch from last season and with the win, the Bulldogs moved to 5-0 all-time against the Kangaroos in the SCAC tournament.
Texas Lutheran hit .267 as a team with 61 kills, four aces, and six blocks to move to advance to the SCAC semifinals against Trinity.
Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) recorded 12 kills, three blocks, five digs, and a service ace. Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) also finished with 12 kills and added two blocks and setter Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had a match-high 21 assists and a team-high two aces in addition to 20 digs and a kill. That represents Respondek's first 20-20 double-double of her collegiate career.
Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) recorded a match-high 26 digs. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) matched her career-high with 14 digs in addition to 20 assists.
Texas Lutheran held the 'Roos to a .132 hitting percentage to start the SCAC Tournament.
Five kills from Tanyse Moehrig led the way for the Bulldogs in an opening set that saw Texas Lutheran take the lead following a 5-5 tie to start the set and never looked back.
Austin College fought back to tie the match 1-1, taking the second set, 25-22.
Texas Lutheran cruised to a 25-17 third set win behind five kills from Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) to take a 2-1 lead before putting the match away with a 25-14 fourth set win.
