Three Majors record double-doubles in 45-46 win over Rust

The Millsaps women's basketball team pulled away in the second half to defeat Rust College 58-46 tonight.

Neither team shot well on the night with the Majors hitting 38 percent (22-58) to the Bearcats' 31 percent (19-61), but the Majors (5-3) used a 18-2 run in the second half to pull away from Rust (2-7).

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with six lead changes. The Majors took an eight-point lead with a Kristin Salmon, 11-3 with 12:53 remaining in the first half, but the Bearcats rattled off nine unanswered points to take their first lead, 11-12 with 8:22 left in the period. From there the two team traded buckets until the end of the half. Salmon ended the half with a three to give the Majors a 24-23 lead going into halftime.

The  game finally broke open a little in the second half with the Majors' 18-2 run. The run was sparked by a pair of Shante Morton free throws to put the Majors on top 30-28 with 14:23 and ended with a Janice Okeke layup with 7:47 remaining with the Majors leading 47-30.
