The Rhodes College Baseball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan this afternoon 8-4. The Lynx overcame an early 4-0 deficit with a 5 run bottom of the 4th to take the lead for good. Junior
Remick Smothers picked up his first collegiate victory. Smothers is now 1-0 on the year as the Lynx improve to 5-7.
Freshman Jake Long made his first collegiate start this afternoon. Long threw 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 unearned runs, walked 3, and struck out 4. Smothers entered the game in the top of the fourth and worked the next two innings, allowing 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 1. Junior
Brian Lainoff worked the 6th and 7th for the Lynx allowing 1 hit, no runs, and walked 1. Freshman
Max Halasz worked the 8th allowing only 1 baserunner, which came on a leadoff walk. Sophomore
James Todd finished off the game for the Lynx striking out all 3 batters he faced.
The Lynx offense was once again led by sophomore SS Lynden Pinding who was 3-4 at the plate with a triple, 3 RBIs, and scored 2 runs. Senior RF
Matt Gilbert was 2-4 at the plate with a run scored, walked once, and stole 2 bases. Senior LF Andy Meier was 1-3 with 2 runs scored, drove in 1, walked once, and stole a base. Freshman 2B
Stewart Martens was 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.
Rhodes will hit the road this weekend, as they travel to Demorest, GA to take on Montclair State Friday night, Piedmont College Saturday night, and Capital on Sunday afternoon.
