The Colorado College women's swimming and diving team pulled out a 131-112 victory over Division II CSU-Pueblo Saturday in Pueblo, Colo.
Â
The Tigers won six of the 13 events, but were fueled by a 1-2-3 finish in each diving event. Junior
Riley Wadehra and sophomores
Lani Flagg and
Jennifer Middleton were the top three divers, respectively, in the 1- and 3-meter competitions.
Â
Junior
Jio Chang and sophomore
Emily Erickson each picked up an individual and relay win on Saturday. Chang took top honors in the 200 IM, while Erickson won the 100 breaststroke, leading another 1-2-3 finish along with sophomores
Dervla Moore-Frederick (2
nd) and
Emileigh Rafidi (3
rd).
Â
Chang and Erickson also joined junior
Selma Jukic and freshman
Maddie Amick to win the meet-opening 200 medley relay, while Chang posted a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
Â
Freshman
Key Macfarland continued her impressive campaign in the distance events, finishing second to CSU-Pueblo's April McDonough in the 1,000 freestyle, then coming from behind to beat McDonough in the 500 free by 81-hundredths of a second. Macfarland also placed second in the 200 IM, while Amick finished third in the 1,000 and fellow freshman
Kerren Matthews was third in the 500.
Â
Selma Jukic finished second in the 200 freestyle, just ahead of her sister, Alma, and third in the 100 freestyle. Alma, meanwhile, swam the anchor on the second-place 200 freestyle relay team with Matthews, senior
Chaney Skilling and freshman
Sam Caro.
Â
"This was an exciting meet," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "We built a big lead early with diving and the medley relay wins, but they (CSU-Pueblo) started whittling away at it. As the score got closer we really had some people step up in the last few events, including Key taking the 500 free and Kerren finishing third. The 100 breaststroke was a critical event for us, and we produced a phenomenal 1-2-3 finish.
Jio Chang was also a difference maker with two huge wins and a second."
Â
The Tigers, 5-1 this season, return to action on Monday, Dec. 14, when they host former assistant coach Franco Pacheco and St. Norbert College, beginning at 5 p.m., at Schlessman Natatorium.
