Tigers toast Johnson & Wales in overtime

Emily Wattman-Turner scored five of her season-high 15 points in overtime to help Colorado College defeat Johnson & Wales University, 86-81, on Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.

Wattman-Turner and Jordy Stephenson drained three-pointers and the Tigers made five of six free throws during the extra period to complete this week's home-and-home sweep of JWU. CC improved to 3-6 overall with its first back-to-back victories of the season.

Stephenson made three of four shots from behind the arc en route to a season-high 14 points.

Becky Luetjen poured in a game-high 23 points, the third time this year she has scored 20 or more points in a game. Kalli Kemling also finished with 15 points, the fourth time in six games she has reached double figures.

Colorado College led 34-27 at the break, but Kourtney Shirley scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half to help the Wildcats forge a tie after 40 minutes. After shooting 54 percent from the floor during the second half, JWU made only two of 11field-goal attempts in overtime.

The Tigers made eight of 22 shots from three-point range, while the Wildcats made only seven of 31 attempts.

CC finished with a 46-43 edge on the boards, with Wattman-Turner and Luetjen grabbing seven apiece. Luetjen also had a season-best five steals and dished out three assists.

Johnson & Wales was led by Andrea Austin, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Ashley Engeln added 14 points.

Colorado College plays host to Kansas Wesleyan University next Saturday.
