Maldonado and Laudicina lead Hawks in season-opening win

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team scored the first 11 goals of the game and cruised to a 13-1 win over the University of Dallas on Saturday.

The one goal allowed set a new program record for the eighth-year Hawks. The previous record for goals allowed was four in a 20-4 win over Oglethorpe in 2014.

Huntingdon scored three goals in the first 10 minutes on Saturday, added five more goals in an eight-minute span and took a 10-0 lead by halftime. The Hawks closed the game with three goals in the second half.

Senior Vanessa Maldonado and freshman Kailey Laudicina combined for 10 goals. Maldonado and Laudicina each finished with five goals and an assist. Sophomore Savannah Ryan added one goal, two assists, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore Keirstin Cramer had one goal and one assist and freshman Jordan Alvis had one goal. Sophomore Shelby Blair had four draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Alex Teague, junior Morgan Pelfrey and sophomore Morgan Coppini each had two caused turnovers.

Coppini played goalie in the first half and finished with two saves and zero goals allowed in 30 minutes. Pelfrey played goalie for the final 30 minutes and finished with three saves and one goal allowed.
