Tigers rally to keep share of SCAC lead

Box Score Colorado College could not have picked a better time to pick up its first road victory of the year.

The Tigers snapped a three-game skid and hung onto a share of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 57-50 victory at Southwestern University on Friday night.

Junior point guard Ryan Milne and sophomore forward Chris Lesnansky combined for 34 points and 12 rebounds as CC improved to 5-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Milne made five of 10 attempts from behind the arc to help the Tigers overcome a nine-point deficit with 23 seconds remaining in the first half.

The second of his three pointers, with seven seconds to go before the break, cut the Colorado College deficit to 27-21.Then he dialed long distance twice during the opening 45 seconds of the second half to tie the game.

Lesnansky scored 13 of his game-high 19 points during the second half, including four consecutive free throws during the final 35 seconds to build upon a precarious three-point lead.

Senior forward Ian Rewoldt gave CC its first lead since early in the first half when he scored off a feed from freshman guard Justin Berardino with 8:30 to play.

Milne put the Tigers up 45-40 with the last of his three pointers with 7:12 to go, but Travis Kurtz answered 25 seconds later and a layup by Chase Kochar tied the contest with 6:14 remaining.

Colorado College took a 50-45 lead with 3:22 to play when Milne set up freshman forward James Lonergan. Just as they had done earlier in the half, the Pirates battled back and tied the game on a three-point play by Kocher with 1:24 on the clock.

Rewoldt put Tigers ahead to stay 27 seconds later with a three-point play of his own and grabbed his ninth rebound seven seconds later.

Kurtz finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for Southwestern, which improved to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Colorado College travels to San Antonio and a showdown with first-place Trinity University on Sunday afternoon.
