Colorado College continued its march toward a berth in the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship by grinding out a 59-44 victory over Centenary College on Friday night at Reid Arena.
With their offense never finding its normal rhythm, the Tigers utilized a strong defensive effort to post their fourth victory in the last five games.
McKenzee Gertz scored seven of her game-high 17 points to spark a 12-4 surge in the opening minutes of the third quarter that allowed CC to a build a 12-point cushion.
Jazzmyn Jones scored four points to cut Centenary's deficit to 42-34 late in the third quarter, but that proved to be as close as the Ladies would get.
The Tigers scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 13 points and the defense sealed the victory by holding Centenary to just six points during the final 10 minutes.
Colorado College blocked eight shots, including a season-high six by
Rosie Braley, and held the Ladies to a 25.8 field-goal percentage.
CC was 9-for-25 from behind the arc while the Ladies connected on just three of 21 long-range shots.
Anna Fanelli and Braley led the Tigers with nine rebounds apiece. Fanelli also dished out a game-high five assists.

Talia Cloud scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
Julia Moore recorded six rebounds and a game-high three steals.

Deunya Small pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Jennae Mayberry scored 13 points and had a pair of steals.

Colorado College improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the SCAC.
Centenary slipped to 1-16 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
