ATLANTA, Ga. – The Pirate men’s soccer team picked
up their second win of the weekend behind two goals by junior Tom
Holleman (pictured). Southwestern shutout Oglethorpe 3-0 to improve
to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference while the Petrels fall to
6-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the SCAC.
It took just over two minutes for the Pirates to capture the lead
when senior Josh Spencer scored unassisted and gave SU the 1-0
lead. Holleman scored his first goal of the match in the 28th
minute with a pass from junior Tim Hord to put Southwestern up 2-0
going into halftime.
The second half was scoreless most of the way until Holleman found
the back of the net one more time in the 80th minute on a pass from
first-year John Brodt for the insurance goal to put SU up 3-0.
Southwestern outshot the Petrets 15-7 on the afternoon and had five
more corners (7-2). Sophomore keeper Nick Pierce logged his third
shutout of the season recording three saves on the afternoon.
The Pirates close out conference action with two home games on
Southwestern’s Homecoming weekend. SU faces Hendrix on Friday
at 3:00 pm and ends with Rhodes on Sunday at 11:00 am for Senior
