CC Falls at Centenary in Double Overtime

Box Score Senior guard Bobby Roth scored a career-high 19 points for the Colorado College men's basketball team, but 25 turnovers and an off night at the free throw line allowed Centenary College to hang around and the Gents escaped with a 79-87 victory in double overtime on Saturday night.

CC's Eric Houska hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to force the first overtime, and then Centenary's Travion Kirkendoll scored as time expired to send the game to a second five-minute period.

The Tigers led 73-71 after Roth connected from long range 44 seconds into the second overtime, however the Gents ran off eight straight points to take a 79-73 lead.

A three-pointer from Houska cut Colorado College's deficit in half, but Centenary answered with five more points to build an 85-76 cushion with just 31 seconds remaining and the Tigers were only able to get to within six points on a Houska layup with three seconds to play.

CC slipped to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers won three of four games on the road during the last two weeks and currently are fifth in the conference standings.

Colorado College led 36-23 when CooXooEii Black scored with 22 seconds remaining in the first half and held a 10-point cushion when Roth hit a free throw with 14:48 to play.

Unfortunately, a 12-for-26 performance at the charity stripe prevented the Tigers from putting the game out of reach.

Houska produced 18 points and seven assists for CC.

Black added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, while Chris Martin finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Colorado College's Edmund Pendleton grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and scored seven points.

Kirkendoll finished with 31 points for the Gents, who improved to 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the league.

Kaharri Carter recorded 18 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Tigers open a three-game home stand next Friday when SCAC leading Schreiner University visits Reid Arena.
