Malone’s Brace Fuels Win Over ’Roos

Robert Malone struck for a pair of goals and the Tigers put together a suffocating defensive effort as the Colorado College men's soccer team defeated Austin College, 4-0, Friday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Washburn Field.

The Tigers (9-3, 7-2 SCAC) dominated every facet of the game, outshooting the 'Roos, 10-3, and maintaining play in the offensive half for most of the contest.

Keenan Amer put CC on the board in the 11th minute when he took a corner kick from Will Mallory in front of the net and placed a header past Austin goalie Joseph Khalaf.

The 'Roos (4-5-2, 3-5-1 SCAC) mustered just one total shot in the first 45 minutes.

Malone took a centering pass at the top of the box and fired a shot past Khalaf in the 51st minute for his team-high fourth goal of the season, then struck again in the 59th minute by converting a penalty kick after Hayden Cogswell was pulled down in the box. Malone has four goals in his last four games and leads the team with 11 points.

The Tigers' final goal came in the 81st minute when Cogswell sent a pass to the front of the net from the end line that was deflected into the net by an Austin defender.

Colorado College goalie Keller Mochel made two saves in recording his eighth shutout of the season and 11th of his career. The Tigers have posted four consecutive clean sheets and has held their opponents scoreless for nearly 364 minutes.

The Tigers continue conference play on Sunday, Oct. 7, against the University of Dallas on Stewart Field beginning at noon.
