Huntingdon sweeps Dallas and Mount St. Joseph

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team closed out the weekend with a sweep of the University of Dallas and Mount St. Joseph on Sunday.
The Lady Hawks beat Dallas 8-5 and knocked off Mount St. Joseph 3-1.
Huntingdon (7-3) rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the middle innings against Dallas (3-5), took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Against Mount St. Joseph (3-1), the Lady Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning but answered with three runs in the sixth inning.
Trailing 3-2 in the Dallas game, Madison Perryman singled to drive in Claire Tomberlin to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Perryman scored on an error to give Huntingdon the lead.
In the sixth inning, Lydia Lewis drove in Caitlyn Caffee with a single and Perryman scored on an error to make it a 6-3 game. Lewis scored on an error and Alyssa Singleterry closed the scoring on a sacrifice fly by Annie Nolan.
Perryman finished the Dallas game 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs and Caitlyn Caffee was 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Singleterry scored twice and had two stolen bases and Lewis had one RBI and one run. McKenzie Ridgway, MacKenzie Smelley and Nolan each had one RBI and Tomberlin scored one run.
Mallory McCarty (1-2) picked up the win in 4 1/3 innings, striking out one, scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs. Lauren Melton earned her first save of the season in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Melton gave up four hits, walked one and allowed two earned runs.
Madison Hunt (5-0) pitched a complete game for the win against Mount St. Joseph. Hunt gave up eight hits, struck out three, walked two and allowed one unearned run in seven innings.
Ridgway was 3-for-4 with a run and two doubles in the game. Emily Nieuwstraten and Lewis each had one RBI and Rayne Ellis and Nolan each scored one run.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ellis scored on a wild pitch to tie the game before Nieuwstraten drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ridgway and give Huntingdon a 2-1 lead. Nolan scored the final run on a single by Lewis.
Hunt and the Huntingdon defense allowed Mount St. Joseph to reach base just twice in the final two innings.
