Balanced Tigers Roll Past Chapman

Box Score Four different Tigers struck for three goals apiece to lead No. 24 Colorado College women's lacrosse team to a 17-7 victory at West Region rival Chapman University on Friday night at Wilson Field.

Junior attackers Allie Thuet and Eva King led CC with three goals and a pair of assists, while senior midfielder Ellie Meyer and freshman attacker Maggie O'Donnell each finished with three goals and four points.

After Lucy Schwartz put the Panthers on the board three minutes into the game, King leveled the score nearly four minutes later.

Thuet put the Tigers in front three minutes later after taking a feed from King, and then goals by freshman midfielder Molly Dibble, O'Donnell and a pair from King gave Colorado College a 6-1 lead with 7:45 remaining in the first half.  

Leah Donnelly got one back for Chapman with 6:12 to go, but Thuet and Meyer each produced a goal and an assist during a 3-0 surge that gave CC a 9-2 cushion with 2:50 to play before halftime.

The Panthers' Danielle Zahn scored the last goal of the first half, and then Vanessa Topete and Donnelly found the net to pull their team to within 9-5 three minutes into the second half.

Colorado College reclaimed the momentum with four consecutive markers to build a 13-5 lead.

O'Donnell set up freshman attacker Bella Beattie and then scored O'Donnell again to put the Tigers up 11-5. Three minutes later, Meyer struck for her second of the game and then sophomore midfielder

Avery Bell scored while down a player to give CC a 13-5 lead with 18:31 remaining.

Colorado College took a nine-point lead when O'Donnell scored for the third time with 16:09 to play, but Chapman answered with a pair of Topete markers to put an end to the Tigers' 5-0 run.

Meyer scored a free-position goal with 5:51 to play, and then Thuet struck for the third time eight seconds later.  

Junior attacker Rachel Sheridan closed out the scoring with 4:30 remaining in the game.

CC won 17 of 26 draw controls while the Panthers finished with a 47-46 edge in ground balls

King, Sheridan and sophomore defender Sydney Lane grabbed four ground balls apiece to lead the Tigers.

Colorado College launched 39 total shots, while Chapman finished with 22.

Sophomore goaltender Alena Stern made eight saves for the Tigers, who improved to 2-0.

Topete led the Panthers with three tallies, while Donnelly added a pair.

Preetha Raj stopped 12 shots for Chapman, which dropped to 2-3.

Colorado College visits No. 25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
