Milne's 32 not enough to get CC past 'Roos

Box Score Sophomore guard Ryan Milne poured in a career-high 32, but Colorado College dropped a 67-61 decision to Austin College with a share of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's West Division on the line at Reid Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Kangaroos improved to 12-9 overall and 8-4 in the conference. AC now holds a one-game advantage over Trinity and a two-game lead over CC in the SCAC's West Division. The Tigers slipped to 9-10 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

The Tigers led 52-44 after sophomore guard Jake Tramutolo sank a pair of free throws with 9:51 remaining, but CC went cold from the floor and managed just 10 points the rest of the way. After taking its largest lead of the game, Colorado College missed six consecutive shots and committed a pair of turnovers during the next six minutes.

Ransom Okpala led Austin with 19 points, including a 3-pointer with 2:24 to play put the Kangaroos ahead for good. Then, after Milne's driving layup pulled the Tigers to within 59-58, AC's got a break when Josh Saunders threw the ball toward basket from the top of key and it dropped in off the backboard.

On CC's next possession, Milne missed a layup while being knocked to the floor and a second later the 'Roos extended their lead to five points on a pair of free throws by Alen Michaels.

Michaels finished with 14 points, while Saunders recorded 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Senior forward Jeremiah Waters scored 11 points for the Tigers, while Tramutolo finished with 10. Junior forward Ian Rewoldt paced CC with nine rebounds.

After trailing by as many as six points during the first half, CC took its first lead on a pair of Tramutolo free throwswith 8:17 remaining. Milne's layup with 47 seconds to go put the Tigers ahead 33-31 after 20 minutes.

Colorado College plays host to the University of Dallas on Sunday at noon.
