Box Score Ben Green came up golden in his first collegiate game, scoring midway through the second overtime to give Colorado College a 1-0 victory over Concordia college on Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

Green settled a cross from senior forward Caden MacKenzie and tucked the ball inside the right post.

MacKenzie, who missed the entire 2015 season with an injury, recorded the 10th assist of his career. Four of those resulted in game-winning goals.

It marked the second year in a row the Tigers prevailed on a 'Golden Goal' in their first contest of the season. Last season, Colorado College rallied to defeat Carthage College, 3-2, at Stewart Field.

"We had a poor first half by our standards, but the boys responded well in the second half," head coach Scott Palguta said. "The game was ugly at times and Concordia placed a lot of guys behind the ball, but I give our guys a lot of credit because they found a way."

CC dominated the game statistically, amassing a 24-8 advantage in total shots, but had little more than chipped paint to show for its offensive efforts.

Junior midfielder Joel Frykholm hit the post in the 49th minute, and senior defender Christian Wulff did the same four minutes into the second overtime.

Junior goalkeeper Theo Hooker made four saves while recording the 17th clean sheet of his career. He now is only five behind Dave Khuen's (2004-2007) record of 22 since goalie stats were tallied beginning in 1992.

Hooker stopped a pair of shots during the first 15 minutes and wasn't called upon to make another save until early in the second overtime.

Ben Glogoza finished with 11 saves for the Cobbers.

Colorado College closes out the University of St. Thomas Tournament against the host Tommies on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
