Tigers Split First Two Matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The No. 7 Colorado College volleyball team split its first two matches of the season, cruising to a sweep of Millsaps College before falling in five sets to Clarkson University.

The setback against the Knights snapped CC's Division III home-court winning streak at 66 matches. The last Division III opponent to escape Reid Arena with a victory was No. 22 Nebraska Wesleyan University on Oct. 4, 2014. That match also went to five sets.

Senior outside hitter Jordan Mullen led the Tigers with a match-high 18 kills and completed her first double-double of the year with 14 digs.

After a disappointing first set, CC appeared to be in control after taking the next two in convincing fashion.

Already playing without All-America middle hitter Margo Spaethling, who suffered a hand injury in Thursday's practice, two starting outside hitters were unable to continue in the fourth set.

At that point, Clarkson overcame a 17-14 deficit to take set No. 4, and then played lights out in the fifth to earn the victory.

Note:
Colorado College also saw its 34-match home winning streak come to an end. It's last loss at Reid Arena occurred on Oct. 4, 2016, in four sets to Division II Colorado Christian University.

Head Coach Rick Swan Said:
"It took the perfect storm to beat us. Even though we were down three starters, I loved the grit and the fight.

"We need to start a new run tomorrow."

Junior right side hitter Allie Freeburg produced 15 kills and added eight digs and five blocked shots.
