No. 17 Trinity Women Fall to Incarnate Word in Regular Season Finale

SAN ANTONIO ā€“ Trinity's 17th-ranked women's swimming & diving team concluded its regular season against NCAA I University of the Incarnate Word on Saturday, losing by a final score of 187-87. The Tigers had just two event winners in the meet, though several other performances finished in the top three ā€“ including both of Saturday's relay events.

Emma Hagan (Overland Park, Kan. / Olathe East) and Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird) both earned individual wins in the meet, as Hagan won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:08.39, and Burns won the 400 individual medley with her time of 4:29.92. In addition to her win the 400 IM, Burns also finished third in the 200 back in 2:09.78.

Both Trinity standouts were also a part of the third-place 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:50.31. The Tiger duo was joined by Julie Schwam (Portland, Ore. / David Douglas) and Caroline Myers (Austin, Texas / Bowie) in the event that led off the swim portion of the meet.

Hagan was also a part of the runner-up 200 free relay team that earned a time of 1:38.95 on Saturday. Hagan and Myers teamed up with Josie Gillentine (Heath, Texas / Rockwall Heath) and Juliana Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway) in the final event of the day.

Erica Peterson (Lantana, Texas / Guyer) and Schwam finished second and third, respectively, in the 500 free. Peterson secured a time of 5:15.79, followed by the 5:24.98 mark from Schwam. Karin Petersen (Cibolo, Texas / Randolph) was also the runner-up in the 1000 free with a time of 11:23.65.

In the diving events, Gabi Fulk (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Horizon) and Alexis Radhakrishnan (Lexington, Ky. / Paul Laurence Dunbar) earned medalist finishes on both boards. Fulk was second on the 3-meter board with a score of 267.60, while Radhakrishnan was third with her total of 248.03. The 1-meter board saw the two teammates swap positions with Radhakrishnan leading the way with her 254.55 score that earned her runner-up accolades. Fulk was third with her score of 237.53 on the low board.

The Tiger women's team will next compete at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Garland, Texas, February 8-11. Trinity has won 19 consecutive SCAC Championships and will look to finish strong in the final chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships that will be held March 15-18 in Greensboro, N.C. The Tiger divers will be in their final competition before the NCAA Diving Regionals on February 24-25.
