No. 19/21 Trinity Men's Golf Finishes Second at The Whitney

WHITNEY, Texas – The No. 19/21 Tiger men's golf team finished as the runner-up in The Whitney at the White Bluff Golf Resort, which is its first tournament of the Spring semester.

Tournament hosts the University of Dallas shot the tournament's only team round under 300 on Tuesday, pulling away from the field to take the win. Trinity finished second by seven strokes ahead of third-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The team total of 308 for the Tigers in today's round is tied for the second-best score of the entire tournament.

Sophomore Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) carded a one-under 143 to win the two-day event, shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Mason had 14 pars, two birdies, and two bogeys in today's round, which left him with a four-stroke lead over the nearest competitor.

Senior Daniel Nunez (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) tied three other golfers for fourth place with a score of 152 (+8) for the tournament. He finished with a team-best three birdies on the course today – two of which came on the front nine that he finished at one-over 37.

First-year Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) joined his teammates in the top 15, keeping the same position he held after yesterday's round despite improving by six strokes today. Sandhu shot a 77 on Tuesday, highlighted by his even-par 36 on the front.

Trinity will play its second of three tournaments in March next weekend, heading out to the West Coast for the Kingsmen Invitational, hosted by California Lutheran University on March 13 and 14. The Tigers return to the Lone Star State for the Texas Cup, a tournament hosted by the University of Texas-Dallas that begins on March 19.
